POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Minnesota Agri-Growth Council (MAGC) has an immediate opening for a Program Manager to assist in all activities of the Council, including policy development, event planning, and office management duties. The Program Manager will also represent the Council in various meetings and public/private events.

The ideal candidate should be resourceful, friendly, interested in agriculture, and comfortable working in a small office environment.

BACKGROUND

MAGC is a non-profit trade association representing the food & agriculture industry through public policy, lobbying, strategic planning, and advocacy. The Council's 200+ members range from multinational as well as small food processors to renewable energy manufacturers, other trade associations, farm and commodity groups, finance-lenders, academic institutions, and all others directly and indirectly involved in the food and agriculture industry. MAGC staff, including the Program Manager, has a high level of interaction with key influencers from the business, government, public policy, academic, and agricultural sectors as the organization carries out its mission.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Political Science or related field and a minimum of 1-3 years of related business and/or government experience. Candidate must have some experience with and a basic understanding of issues, concerns, trends, and developments within the agriculture and agribusiness industries. The position requires a basic understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles.

The position requires solid interpersonal, communication, organizational, and project management skills. Having an understanding of legislative and regulatory process is preferred. Excellent computer skills preferred, including QuickBooks, MS Word, MS Excel, and web authoring tools/software. Must have experience with handling confidential information.

Candidate must have the ability to establish and meet deadlines, work under pressure and handle multiple priorities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties will include

•Planning, budgeting, promoting and executing events and meetings

•Coordinating logistics for Board of Director meetings, including locations, advance materials, and minutes

•Tracking financial information of the organization, including budgets, accounts receivable/payable, credit card statements, banking information, and profit and loss (P&L) statements (duties supported by a bookkeeper)

•Managing data bases and communications lists

•Maintaining and helping recruit members

•Filing lobbying and PAC disclosure information

•Maintaining office systems

•Supervision of bookkeeper, intern(s), and other contractors and vendors
