AGR Internship Opportunity

 

The Home Office is proud to announce an exciting internship opportunity this summer.  We are looking for one or two dynamic undergraduates to take on the challenge of assisting a chapter other than their own by recruiting new members representing the breath, sophistication, scope and relevance of agriculture.  If you are a student with a passion for AGR, and think you have what it takes to be a successful recruiter, then you may be what we're looking for.

                                                                                                                                      

You will be expected, along with the help of local alumni and national leaders, to design a recruitment strategy along with a manageable budget, execute that strategy and produce results that will help that chapter consistently succeed in recruiting men of the highest potential.

 

These internships will provide you with the opportunity to travel to a different part of the country, learn more about AGR and the Home Office, meet some of the leaders of the National Fraternity, network with other AGR undergraduates and alumni, and gain new skills transferable to your career.  You will receive top notch training, professional support throughout the summer, and the experience of a lifetime!  There is a competitive compensation package provided along with a generous incentive package, along with the value of the knowledge and experience you will gain in the process.

Regional Marketing Manager - Hot Job!

The National Pork Board is seeking a Regional Marketing Manger for the Central region (which includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico).
Responsibilities include: implementing pork marketing activities in his/her geographic region that will result in increased domestic expenditures for pork; the development of National Pork Board retail marketing platforms and programs; serving as the National Pork Board's representative with local retailers, packers, and marketing partners. Qualified candidates will focus on positioning and promoting pork products to effectively yield increased prices and volume purchases through value-added marketing activities, increased ad frequency, and knowledge-based initiatives. Equivalent of a bachelor's degree in animal or meat science is desired, but could be waived for significant retail industry experience. Marketing skills, with proven ability to implement comprehensive programs, and knowledge of basic principles of category management in the meat case are required.
A minimum of 3 years experience in retail meat sales, operations, or meat marketing/merchandising is required. This person must be able to competently manage needed activities via computer and other technology vehicles as they will work from a home office. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal channels is necessary.
This position requires extensive travel nationally and candidates must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Quality Laboratory Lead – Physiological Testing, Nampa, ID - 100

Role Purpose – 

The position will lead the daily activities of a quality testing lab to ensure that all activities are performed to meet product assessment and demand requirements.  Will ensure all prescribe testing protocols, methods, evaluations, interpretations and reporting meet company quality standards and in compliance with state, federal and international seed regulatory requirements.  This position ensures that all lab resources (personnel, assets and materials) are effectively managed to optimize capacity utilization.   

  

Accountabilities – 

Coordinate physiological seed testing activities to maintain company quality standards. 

Develops and implements a capacity planning program to ensure that resources are available when needed and the test volume can be turned around in the required timeline. 

Organize and schedule seed testing activities to optimize capacity of lab.  Supervise and develop staff to optimize lab output. 

Ensure quality technicians are properly trained for reliable and accurate test evaluations.  Maintains and directs training certification program of quality technicians. 

Responsible for supervising and directing all on-site quality testing.  Implement and direct testing through Quality Technician 2 staff. 

Coach and conduct employee performance evaluations bi-annually.  

Monitor and supervise all testing procedures for quality and quantity.  Maintains and develops internal testing protocols covering all aspects of the quality testing facility. 

Responsible to determine and monitor all department budgetary costs.  Responsibility encompasses the ability to forecast needs for capital proposals. 

Ensure that test evaluation cards are accurately filled out for data entry.  Routinely audit for discrepancies in test recordings. 

Monitor and supervise working conditions and repair for all testing equipment.  Manage technical and logistical issues with service vendors for decreased repair time. 

Provide support to field productions and plant conditioning in areas of technical expertise (i.e. protocols and training for disease inspections, seed health practices, week identification and tare analysis). 

Represent the company interests at an industry level to communicate and influence change regarding seed regulatory and testing issues. 

Participate in referee testing and experimentation to identify new test methods. 

Provide resource support and expertise to the Quality Tech Lead. 

Provide diagnostic support for research, basic/commercial seed production and claims. 

Issue Reports of Seed Analysis/Certificates for movement of seed both domestic and internationally. 

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

4 year degree in Biology, Plant Science or related discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience including 4 years of supervisory experience in a laboratory setting. 

Strong technical, communication and problem solving skills 

Previous experience supervising lab staff. 

Strong computer skills in MS Office required. 

Excellent communication skills. 

Function effectively in a team environment.

Current searches include a variety of agricultural marketing communications positions for multiple marketing communications agencies who are focused on delivering best-in-class agricultural marketing for well respected national accounts.   If you have experience in crops, livestock or both, we would like to talk to you.  

 

For agronomy marketing positions, we are especially seeking row crop experience and specifically corn and soybeans.   Previous experience working with both seed and pesticides is helpful.  With respect to livestock marketing; experience in beef, dairy and swine markets are desired.   We also have positions in both animal health and animal nutrition.  We are also interested in companion animal experience, including dogs and cats as well as equine.

 

Examples of current positions include multiple advertising account managers and an advertising account supervisor.  Desired candidates will have demonstrated a successful track record and series of promotions as account service professionals in a marketing communications setting.  This can include integrated communications, web, direct, advertising and/or PR.  You must have a working knowledge of multiple communications disciplines.  We have an urgent need for beef and dairy experience.

 

In addition, we are looking for a public relations account supervisor.  Successful public relations candidates will have demonstrated a successful track record of traditional and innovative PR practices in a marketing communications or editorial setting. Strong industry/media contacts are a must, as is a background in the beef and swine markets.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of BS or BA in a relevant field (animal science, ag communications/journalism, marketing, journalism, business, etc.)
  • Between two and ten years of relevant marketing experience.
  • A proven track record of agency experience; additional experience on the client side is a plus. 
  • Portfolio of attractive brands and examples of successful marketing programs.
  • Seeking people with public relations, direct, advertising and high quality collateral experience.
  • Must be capable of taking a lead role for your functional area in client programs, within the internal agency setting and with clients.
  • Seeking people with both business to business (B2B) marketing experience as well as consumer marketers (B2C).
  • Cross industry experience is also helpful but not required.

QA Lab Manager - Minnesota

Manage, maintain, develop and optimize physiological testing protocols for both corn and soybeans. Ensure that physiological testing demands are met in a timely, reliable and cost effective manner. Develop QA testing systems that ensure consistent results across all physiological QA labs. Initiate and participate in quality improvement efforts. Provide technical training and access to Physiological testing philosophies to sales forces to the 3 distinct brands. Accountabilities • Standardize, optimize and coordinate physiological tests that are reliable, accurate, cost effective, timely and pertinent. • Communicate with QA Managers, production plants, parent seed and research staff to understand and anticipate testing demands during the peak seasons. Develop clear sample submission guidelines, to ensure evenly distributed testing loads during peak testing periods.  • Provide procedural and technical leadership for all Supply Chain personnel in quality improvement efforts. • Develop and implement new physiological testing protocols to meet the evolving needs of the business. • Calibrate 3rd party labs and develop a list of approved 3rd party labs, to facilitate outside testing when the need arises. • Validate physiological test results / procedures across all labs through routine internal calibration work. • Develop a professional, highly competent staff through motivation, continuing education and by providing a stimulating work environment. Create an environment that rewards innovative thinking within the team for continual process improvement. • Maintain, through training and testing protocols, a safe work environment in accordance with HSE policies. • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
