Supply Technician IV - Plant - Coon Rapids, Iowa

Supply Technician IV – Plant – Coon Rapids, IA

Role Purpose – 

To produce a reliable supply of high quality seed by executing production plant tasks assign by Plant Management. Foster an operational culture founded on HSE and process improvement.

Accountabilities – 

Tasks and/or Responsibilities may include but not limited to Corn and/or Soybean: • Conditioning Supervisor - Supervises conditioning operation. • Area Manager and/or District Manager – Assisting Field Manager, Asst. Plant Manager, Plant Manager or Agronomist with communicating and contracting acreage with growers, supervising the planting of seed crop, scouting fields for insects and diseases, assigning area during harvest (drying, shelling, field, etc), organizing field inspections process and managing field crews. Responsible for pesticide management program including scouting, diagnosis, application and documentation. Rouging and detasseling of seed fields in assigned area for seed production. • Maintenance Supervisor – Responsible for managing the maintenance of equipment, vehicles and grounds for the Supply Chain site. Schedules maintenance activities and assigns tasks to employees Set up preventive maintenance and training program to keep operations running smoothly. • Pre-Conditioning Lab Coordinator – Perform yield estimates, bin inspections and bin sampling. • Receiving-Sorting Coordinator – Data entry to update inventory and deliveries. • Harvest Coordinator – Responsible for harvest time inspections • Shipping/Distribution Coordinator - Work with shipping, data entry to update inventory, using SAP or other software tracking systems. • Warehouse Supervisor - Coordinate warehouse processes including storage, maintenance and shipping of company products. Coordinate activities for warehouse personnel, develop employee labor skills, and load trucks accurately and quickly. Maintains reports, records, identifies historical benchmarks to establish goals. Tracks and monitors inventory. Coordinates with Plant Management Team to set schedules and determine workforce needs. • Plant HSE Lead – Work with Plant Management Team on training and maintaining a safe work environment fostering an operational culture founded on HSE and process improvement. • Bagging Lead - Manage the bagging of product per instructions provided by plant management. Will need to know how bagging equipment works. Making sure all bagging supplies are available per instructions. Might manage certain amount of manpower. Oversee bagging crew to ensure product is packaged according to quality requirements. Enter daily bagging quality information on computer to update inventory. • Machine Operator – Operates tractor, harvest equipment and/or other equipment. • Plant Lab QA Manager – Perform quality checks on seed in a lab setting from bin samples and finished lot samples. Perform germination test, moisture, clean-out percentages, grading test, seed counts and test weight.

Guidelines for Responsibilities • Managing people and processes 50% to 100% of time • High levels of planning responsibility and innovation • Contributes to performance appraisals and employee development • Higher levels of financial, quality and safety impact • Requires minimal supervision or direction • High level of internal (plant/facilities, product managers ),external (contractors/vendors/dealers) interaction • High level of complexity involving multiple tasks, and requirement of varied technical skills • Shall comply with all Syngenta and legal safety policies, identify, report and remediate if possible any unsafe acts or conditions within the facility.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

Must be High School graduate or GED degree • Associate degree is preferred • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) preferred • Commercial Pesticide Applicators License preferred • An agricultural background is also preferred • Knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures. • May require knowledge of general industrial, electrical, and repair requirements.

Critical experience:

Minimum 3 years to 5 years Seed industry experience

Excellent communication skills - Critical for this position to be able to communicate with co-workers internal/external. • Excellent organization skills • Team orientated • PC and business software skills • Strong supervisory skills • Decisive- Will need to make proper, timely, effective decisions on seed shipments to meet the demands of sales and customers. Develop backup plans/options to have available when making decisions. • Trusted- Will need to make good sound judgment calls in regards to distribution, inventory and seed quality management that will be for the best interest of the company. Will need to gain the trust of sales agents and customers. • Results-Oriented • Innovative- To always look to implement new procedures or technologies to improve work efficiencies. • Ability to adapt to changing environmental/situational needs • Ability to make timely, effective decisions • Ability to remain flexible and responsive when faced with multiple urgent requests • Detail/Accuracy Oriented- All procedures and policies must be understood and followed. • Data entry into data management systems must be accurate due decisions being made by other departments based on the information

NAFTA Supply Chain Cost Accountant/Analyst – Ames, IA

Role Purpose – 

The Supply Chain Cost Accountant/Analyst will provide cost accounting expertise, financial and analytical support for the Supply Chain (SC) function within Syngenta Seeds, Inc. in reporting and analyzing inventory, cost of good produced (COGP) and cost of goods sold (COGS) activity for field crops. The SC Cost Accountant will: 1) develop cost analysis and financial performance results for SC management 2) support cost accounting team in providing financial and analytical support to improve business performance 3) understanding of SC and its value creation drivers 4) investigate and prepare reports on cost processes and projects as assigned 5) assist with Plans, budgets and Estimates (annual, 5-year plan, Les.

Accountabilities – 

Prepare SC performance management measures for Field Crops and track & report performance against targets. • Co-ordinate, monitor and report performance management indicators for management, i.e., annual targets, performance against targets, KPI's and other performance management indicators established by Brand Management and Regional leadership. • Liaise with Brand Controllers. • Prepare margin analysis by crop/brand /hybrid/variety. • Monthly and annual analysis of cost of production and cost of sales. • Respond to cost related inquires from operations and finance. • Accurate and timely standard cost setting, monitoring and analysis. • Manage physical inventory process. • Assist with preparation of monthly crop management reports and explain monthly cost variance to management team. • Assist in the development, implementation, preparation and analysis of key performance measures. • Prepare actual vs. budget variances analysis, reports and presentations. • Review and analyze monthly COGS results. Supply monthly COGS comments to SC Assistant Controller for management reporting. Anticipate and inform management of any deviations from budget or latest estimate. Review key balance sheet entries i.e. inventory levels and reserves etc. • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes with a focus on all elements of SC spending and COGS. Liaise with operations to gather information needed for successful completion of financial plans. • Prepare inventory reserve reports for all seeds. • Project and process work for all field crops as assigned. i.e. plant training, special projects to support SC Cost Accounting Team, variance analysis etc. • Other activities as assigned.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical Knowledge: 

Bachelor's degree with an Accounting major, with emphasis in management/cost accounting preferred. CPA, MBA, or CMA desired but not required. Understanding of International Accounting Standards (IAS) and General Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAP). Experience in standard costing within SAP or other large scale ERP system.

Critical Skills: 

Strong PC skills, especially Excel and database applications. Strong interpersonal and team work/building skills. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Budgeting/Planning/Forecasting. Financial Analysis for income statement, balance sheet and cash flow analysis. Strong organizational skills.

Critical Experience:

Three to Five years of related experience, agribusiness experience desirable. Experience with cost allocations, variance analysis, cost reporting. Experience with the Seeds industry preferred. Experience planning and organizing multiple tasks.
