Senior Director of Development

Function: To lead and manage the Development Department by ensuring the development and implementation of the departmental strategic and operational plans. The Senior Director of Development provides leadership and strategic direction for the Major Gifts, Grants and Capital Campaign fundraising teams in a manner that is consistent with Heifer International's mission, vision and values. Responsibilities: Responsible for creation of strategy for the Development Department and implementation and monitoring of the fundraising plans. Responsible for meeting the revenue and expense targets for the Development teams. Oversee and direct prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts leveraging a Moves Management Process. Educate departmental managers and directors on current trends in fundraising and grantmaking, as well as in developing and implementing program plans in their designated areas to fully reach the goals and objectives of the Department. Work closely with Executive Vice President (EVP) to ensure effectiveness of all Major Gifts activities. Work closely with each area of Development in order to establish strategic objectives and ensure success in all areas while minimizing expenses. Serve as a “thought leader” for Heifer on Capital Campaign, Major Gifts, and other fundraising efforts. May have additional signing authority and assume additional responsibilities in the EVP’s absence. Develop and monitor effective policies and procedures regarding major gifts, grants and capital campaign fundraising leading to increased funds in all areas. Provide leadership and direction to staff regarding fundraising best practices and ensures timely implementation of plans. Effectively work with the Chief Operating Officer and President & CEO and other Heifer executives (Board, International Program Country Directors, etc) to cultivate and solicit funds from Major Donors. Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors using short-term and long-term fundraising strategic plans; secure gifts through the systematic and effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals, corporations and foundations. Oversee the prospect management tracking and moves management system to ensure coordination of major gifts fundraising across the organization. Oversee the Prospect Research Office to ensure effective and timely research and identification of funders to include individuals, foundations and corporations. Liaise with appropriate internal teams for development of materials and proposals for solicitation. Maintain a current and substantive knowledge of the work of Heifer and fundraising best practices. Supervise and lead the development and administrative staff towards meeting the overall department goal. Develop, implement and monitor departmental operational plans and expense budgets. May perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Internet Marketing Manager

Function: Manages the creation, execution, monitoring and reporting of Heifer’s Internet marketing to drive traffic to all externally facing fundraising websites. Works closely with other team members to ensure efficiency and high degree of donor user satisfaction of online income producing assets and provides user feedback to keep them at optimal usability. This position is directly responsible for specific online fundraising revenue in Fiscal Year 2010 with increasing fundraising targets in subsequent years. Manages the day-to-day work of the Internet Marketing team’s Search Engine Optimization & Marketing (SEO/SEM) manager, campaigns, and initiatives.

Responsibilities: Manage growth and diversify revenue through Heifer’s primary donation vehicles; online catalog, express giving, Friends of Heifer and other methods as assigned, largely utilizing existing digital assets and content. Manage advertising and display media and creative to drive online traffic to individual and team fundraising websites. Manage creative, content and approval process for email campaigns and e-newsletters. Manage the development of new creatives for websites and e-communications. Manage external relationships with advertising agencies and consultants, freelance designers and writers, independent contractors and internal creative services. Manage relationships with other technology vendors as assigned. Manage and maintain integration of Heifer secondary websites such as education websites with Heifer.org and the overall Heifer Web presence. Manage the growth and development of email lists and communications to donors and prospects to increase revenue and retention. Manage the Internet Marketing Team position: SEO/SEM manager. Work closely with the other team members to develop and implement income-producing technology that improves the donor experience. Function: Position is responsible for executing Heifer’s Internet social marketing strategy through actively managing and building online relationships that directly impact contributions. Keep up-to-date on latest social marketing and networking trends, tactics, methods and best practices. Provide continuous evaluation of social media vendors on the direction and execution of social media plan as it pertains to generating links and awareness. Branding and Communications Manager

Function: Within Heifer’s mission and board policy, the Director of Branding and Communication will provide overall direction and leadership to increase brand awareness and funding by building and managing the Heifer brand through multi-faceted public relations (PR), communications and marketing programs. Develop strategic partnerships with internal customers and donor support to ensure an integrated cohesive messaging and protection of the integrity of the brand.

Responsibilities: 1. Lead in the development of an overall communication, PR and branding strategy for the organization. 2. Collaborate across departments and teams to ensure a cohesive approach that achieves goals and fits the Heifer brand. Work closely with departments and teams who have primary responsibility to reach targeted audiences, such as donors, prospective donors, employees, program beneficiaries and other influencers. 3. Lead outreach to online and offline media and actively build relationships with local, national and international media outlets, including print, broadcast and digital, to communicate the Heifer story and positions. 4. Lead development and maintenance of consistent messaging for the organization and assure integration through all public touch points. 5. Develop and maintain comprehensive system to monitor and quickly respond to media coverage both online and offline. 6. Represent the organization to local and national media as one of the in-house spokespeople on a regular basis. 7. Create and protect brand equity through strategy and campaign choices that achieve awareness and branding goals, including oversight of the creative services and magazine components. 8. Develop and execute plans to optimize media coverage of the organization and its mission in national, regional and local media markets. 9. Work closely with Heifer Headquarters staff and international field staff to create and maintain best practices system for gathering and dissemination of information from the field for PR purposes. 10. Lead in developing integrated marketing and PR strategies and platforms across teams. 11. Develop and execute annual and long-term strategic brand marketing plans that drive awareness and preference. 12. Collaborate with internal teams and manage external agency partners to develop and execute national media strategy. 13. Track and analyze reports on media impact and on Heifer’s awareness campaigns. 14. Quantify and track brand health and performance and work with cross-functional teams to increase metrics to achieve established fundraising and awareness goals. 15. Advise senior management on all PR and issue management matters. 16. Oversight of annual PR, creative services and magazine budgets. 17. May perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years’ job-related experience.

Preferred Requirements: a) Master’s degree in a related field highly desirable. b) Editing and media/public relations experience. c) Additional coursework or workshops in writing, public relations or international studies. d) Extensive experience in management and staff supervision and working with consultants.
