Technical Coordinator - Minnesota

Position Opening The Minnesota Agricultural Water Resources Coalition has a Position Opening for a Technical Coordinator

Major Duties
Provide technical analysis of water quality standards development, impaired waters programs, and water quality research to assist MAWRC member groups in dealing with water issues
Work with the Discovery Farms Steering Committee and other coalition staff to develop monitoring, data collection and reporting plans

Coordinate research activities among Discovery Farms partners, including participating farmers, monitoring contractors, agencies and steering committee
Coordinate special projects (project design, data collection, local support groups, etc.) which may be developed to augment Discovery Farms information
Provide technical support and assistance in meeting accountability requirements associated with grants

Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a field associated with soil or water resources is required, with advanced degree preferred.
Technical understanding of water quality research issues in Minnesota
Ability to identify issues, opportunities, and resources and integrate them into a research plan
Ability to organize and complete duties independently in order to meet goals without direct supervision
Ability to communicate self and ideas effectively, orally or in writing
Ability to utilize personal computer and related software for word processing, data base management and time allocation systems
Ability to travel and maintain flexible hours to maintain producer and industry contacts
Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events

Research Technician

Research Technician – Kekaha, HI - 1012 

Role Purpose – 

The purpose of the Research Technician is to support all Soybean Product Development Scientists in their efforts to create superior products and support the Soybean Nursery Manager's targeted goals for precision, accuracy and efficiency in site operations at a continuous breeding nursery.

Accountabilities – 

Functioning as an integral member of a team responsible for packaging, planting, cross pollinating, tissue sampling, harvesting, and turnaround of soybean seed in screen houses and in the field. • Supporting efforts to maintain integrity of seed inventory, packaging, field/screen house layout, pollinating, tissue sampling, threshing, and data collection in a continuous breeding nursery. • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required Company training courses and attending local safety meetings. • Comply with all regulatory and stewardship protocols. • Providing day-to-day guidance to seasonal staff to achieve desired results. • Effectively communicating regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

A two-year degree in an agriculture related discipline and/or relevant experience • A working knowledge of farming equipment. • A valid driver's license is critical. • A basic understanding of soybean breeding practices and/or other self-pollinated crops is desirable. • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect data precision and accuracy. • Understand and use modern agronomic practices.

Critical experience • Experience in seed research and operation and day to day maintenance of related equipment. Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

• Ability to use MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and other standard software. • Ability to use proprietary systems (SPIRIT) for label printing and inventory management. • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.

Research Technician – Kekaha, HI - 1015 

Role Purpose – 

The purpose of the role is to provide leadership, coordination and safe execution of all Maintenance operations which continue to become more complex and critical given parent seed, continuous nursery and trait development demands on row numbers. These increasing numbers translate directly into additional staffing, equipment and facility needs, which directly impact the Maintenance group. These maintenance operations include: 1) unwavering adherence to all Syngenta, federal, state and local requirements for HSE compliance, 2) establishment of timely and cost effective procedures for the repair activities 3) repair and maintenance of a large fleet of vehicles and farm equipment 4) Inventory management of parts and supplies.

Accountabilities – 

Adhere to all current Syngenta, Federal, State and Local HSE requirements, including OSHA and EPA Regulatory and SAMACO compliance • Reliably execute all maintenance operations and projects • Lead and supervise third party employees • Handle in-field equipment repair • Safely execute heavy equipment repair • Provide coordination support for facility maintenance projects • Recommend and implement changes/refinements to maintenance operations. • Maintain detailed repair and maintenance records on all equipment • Maintain data on repair volume by department, item type, cost and date • Participate as an active participant in Maintenance and HSE team • Oversee tasks completed by third-party contract labor to fulfill shop needs

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

Minimum 2 years Associates Degree in Diesel Mechanics, plus related ASE certifications • B.S. preferred

Critical experience • At least 5 years of maintenance experience on farm equipment • Prefer experience in a tractor dealership maintenance department • Experience with computers and diagnostic equipment • Experience with timeline critical business • Experience within a regulated industry • Ability to work in a team environment and get along well with others • Must possess or be able to obtain Commercial Drivers License

The purpose of the Research Technician is to support local Product Development Scientists in their efforts to create superior products and support the Station Manager's targeted goals for precision, accuracy and efficiency in site operations.

Accountabilities – 

Functioning as an integral member of a team responsible for packaging, planting, cultivating, stand counting and harvesting yield trials, breeding nurseries and isolation topcrosses. • Supporting efforts to maintain integrity of seed Inventory, packaging, field layout, pollinating, shelling and data collection. • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required Company training courses and attending local safety meetings. • Overseeing tasks completed by third party labor to achieve desired results. • Effectively communicating regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

A two-year degree in an ag related discipline and/or relevant experience • A working knowledge of farming equipment. • A valid drivers license and the ability to obtain a class A CDL is critical. • A basic understanding of the difference between hybrids and inbreds is desirable. • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect trial data precision and accuracy. • Understand and use modern agronomic practices.

Critical experience:

Experience in the operation, adjustment, maintenance of and ability to do minor repairs on various plot equipment, including planter, tractor, cultivator, sprayer, combine, truck and trailer is desirable.
