Role Purpose – 

The purpose of the Research Technician is to support all Soybean Product Development Scientists in their efforts to create superior products and support the Soybean Nursery Manager's targeted goals for precision, accuracy and efficiency in site operations at a continuous breeding nursery.

Accountabilities – 

Functioning as an integral member of a team responsible for packaging, planting, cross pollinating, tissue sampling, harvesting, and turnaround of soybean seed in screen houses and in the field. • Supporting efforts to maintain integrity of seed inventory, packaging, field/screen house layout, pollinating, tissue sampling, threshing, and data collection in a continuous breeding nursery. • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required Company training courses and attending local safety meetings. • Comply with all regulatory and stewardship protocols. • Providing day-to-day guidance to seasonal staff to achieve desired results. • Effectively communicating regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Critical knowledge:

A two-year degree in an agriculture related discipline and/or relevant experience • A working knowledge of farming equipment. • A valid driver's license is critical. • A basic understanding of soybean breeding practices and/or other self-pollinated crops is desirable. • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect data precision and accuracy. • Understand and use modern agronomic practices.

Role Purpose

The Trait Genetics Nursery Associate will manage the Trait Genetics Nursery, genetic germplasm, phenotyping and inventory in support of gene discovery and functional characterization studies. The Associate will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary Discovery Team supporting the development of Native Trait enhanced products and maize germplasm improvements

 

Accountabilities

Manage the Trait Genetics maize Genetics Nursery in Slater, including nursery trial design, seed preparation, planting, designing and implementing the mating designs, managing tasks performed by summer pollinating crews, harvesting, material advancement and inventory. • Manage the IT needs for the Trait Genetics materials, including designing trials, mapping trials, updating pollinations, advancing new materials and creating inventories in SPIRIT (the Syngenta global plant breeding computer system). • Managing all aspects of the maize genetics nursery including planting preparations, seed filling, planting, field maintenance, plant staking/tagging, sample collections, shoot bagging, making pollinations, collecting phenotypes, recording pollinations, harvesting and shelling. • Manage tissue sample collections from the field and/or greenhouse. • Participate in off-season nurseries and/or greenhouse experiments. • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required Company training courses and attending local safety meetings.

 

 

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

 

Critical knowledge • MSc in a relevant agricultural or biological scientific discipline or BS with significant experience equivalent years of experience. • Demonstrated knowledge of plant breeding, plant genetics, and crop nursery management. • Preferred knowledge of maize biology, maize genetics or maize breeding. Critical experience • Minimum of four years of hands-on experience working in plant breeding or plant genetics. • Direct experience with working in a crop breeding or genetics nursery. • Direct experience with pedigree, nursery management and inventory computer systems. • Experience with data collection devices and systems for recording field notes and plant phenotypes. Agronomy Pesticide Group Lead Research Associate – Kekaha, HI - 998

Role Purpose – 

In a highly team-oriented environment the Agronomy Research Associate will coordinate all pesticide activities. Working in conjunction with Agronomy Operation this will include effective planning and execution of pesticide applications, Worker Protection Standard compliance, Stewardship and regulatory compliance, maintenance of equipment and development of pesticide program to safely and reliably meet current and future crop care requirements. The Research Associate will train and supervise full time staff to provide effective and efficient field execution. The effectiveness of this position is measured by Nursery, Trait and Parent Seed groups meeting their timelines and returning target amounts of high quality seed, achieving across year reliability of seed increases and crosses, and maintaining budget efficiency.

Accountabilities – 

Develop and schedule pesticide applications to provide quality crop protection with minimal impact to environment. • Provide communication across group functions to ensure health and safety. • Equipment calibration, maintenance and repair. • Compliance to Federal and State laws regarding pesticides. • Maintain inventories and accurate records. • Contribute to SOP refinement, development. • Execute SOPs developed by Site Management Team. • Regular updates and written progress reports, timelines and needs communicated as requested by managers. • Continuous improvement through Quality Management • Communicate and solve staffing needs (assembling proper crew for necessary activities). • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with all Hawaii staff.

Thorough working knowledge of pesticides and safe application to row crops. • Working knowledge of different spray vessels i.e. self propelled, 3-point and their calibration methods. • Ability to conduct field diagnoses and perform troubleshooting to application equipment. • Good understanding of other agronomic/cultural practices (irrigation, tillage, IPM, planting). • Knowledge of and ability to use computer software for data management. E.g., Word, Excel, Access. • Knowledge of seed crop research, production and quality assurance practices.

Critical experience:

B.S. in agriculture or equivalent experience in tropical agricultural research preferred. • Knowledge of farm operations and agronomy necessary. • Ability to maintain/obtain a Private Applicator and CAT 10 Applicator's License. • The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Role Purpose – 

Act as a Finance Advisor for the Capital Projects Group (CPG) and Supply Chain organization influencing the business strategy and decision making by providing financial expertise and challenging business views. QA Lab Manager - Minnesota

Manage, maintain, develop and optimize physiological testing protocols for both corn and soybeans. Ensure that physiological testing demands are met in a timely, reliable and cost effective manner. Develop QA testing systems that ensure consistent results across all physiological QA labs. Initiate and participate in quality improvement efforts. Provide technical training and access to Physiological testing philosophies to sales forces to the 3 distinct brands. Accountabilities • Standardize, optimize and coordinate physiological tests that are reliable, accurate, cost effective, timely and pertinent. • Communicate with QA Managers, production plants, parent seed and research staff to understand and anticipate testing demands during the peak seasons. Develop clear sample submission guidelines, to ensure evenly distributed testing loads during peak testing periods.  • Provide procedural and technical leadership for all Supply Chain personnel in quality improvement efforts. • Develop and implement new physiological testing protocols to meet the evolving needs of the business. • Calibrate 3rd party labs and develop a list of approved 3rd party labs, to facilitate outside testing when the need arises. • Validate physiological test results / procedures across all labs through routine internal calibration work. • Develop a professional, highly competent staff through motivation, continuing education and by providing a stimulating work environment. Customer Care Representative – Lisle, IL - 922

Role Purpose – 

To provide excellent customer service and support to the brokerage team, and to sales representatives and vendors that handle brokerage products in the Flowers industry.

Accountabilities – 

Responsible for providing customer service to Syngenta Sales reps as they require entry of orders, and also work with vendors to determine product availability. Review quotes and process orders. • Manage individual time to effectively handle and prioritize multiple inbound and outbound calls, solve customer issues, and complete daily activities. • Manage orders from start to finish including editing orders, order entry, sourcing product, verifying acknowledgements, vendor confirmation, status checks, and order changes. • Process order acknowledgments. • Follow all SAP and Customer Care procedures as outlined by Team Leads and Customer Care Manager (CCM). • Provide accurate and complete documentation on all issues so anyone can fill in if necessary. • Provide recommendations for problem resolution. • Strive for the highest internal and external customer satisfaction at all times. • Communicate issues to Lead CCR and/or CCM as needed. • Participate in special projects as required by Lead CCR or CCM. • Provide back up for product group members on a regular basis, provide back up in other areas as requested. • Willingly work additional hours occasionally during the busy season, or complete tasks outside of the job description as the yearly business cycle dictates

Knowledge, experience & capabilities –

Excellent product knowledge • Works well with Lead CCR in determining training issues and creating efficiencies • Mentor to less experienced CCR's • Strong interpersonal skills and a "team player" attitude with demonstrated Customer Care skills • Demonstrated computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook, knowledge of SAP or other comparable database would be beneficial) • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem solve. • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Self starter with excellent time management skills • Minimum 2 years Customer Care experience
