Soybean Product Development Agronomist, PDA Scientist – Monroeville, IN - 991

Role Purpose – The purpose of the Soybean PDA Scientist role is to identify, characterize and position superior performing varieties that meet business targets and identified market needs including key traits and technologies.

Accountabilities - Coordinate Soy PD Stage 5 & 6 Trial activity for the Eastern region, including: a. Coordinate trial design, content, and testing locations b. Lead promotion of new lines from Stage 5 to 6 c. Work with Breeders, Station Managers, and appropriate commercial contacts, for placement of Stage 4, 5 and 6 trials within Syngenta locations and with outside collaborators. d. Take notes and/or coordinate note taking on Stage 4, 5 and 6 trials, input data, analyze data and summarize data for promotion decisions 2. Working with Technical Product Specialists (TSP) Product Managers (PM): a. Provide timely data to facilitate promotion decisions for all product outlets b. Attend and present data at meetings to allow selection decisions on new varieties c. Actively participate as appropriate at field days designed to help show and position products d. Attend meetings with key external customers to position key lines as required 3. Provide input for Soybean Breeding programs: a. Review product and technology needs on an annual basis to provide direction and support for planning of the early pipeline b. Provide feedback received from customers on performance of key varieties and competitor products 4. Coordinate other agronomic trials as needed, including: a. Trials of new product offerings with Crop Protection (e.g. seed treatments/herbicides) b. Variety positioning trials (e.g. row spacing, soil response) 5. Work with Breeder and Station Manager to provide feedback that allows continuous improvement in plot quality and testing efficiency 6. Manage Data and Reports by use of SPIRIT and Data Miner, maintaining current reports and developing new reports as needed.

Knowledge, experience & capabilities – Experience in plant breeding and/or as a professional agronomist

Critical knowledge: Knowledge of product development • Thorough knowledge of soybean agronomy • Knowledge of soybean germplasm, traits and NAFTA markets. • Ph.D., Masters or equivalent

Critical Skills: Excellent organization, communication and computer skills.

 Excellent interpersonal skills, especially those required to successfully function as part of a cross-functional team.  Ability to understand and communicate complex instructions.  Excellent data analysis and presentation skills.
