POSITION DESCRIPTION
A. TITLE OF POSITION: Director, Grassroots Programs
B. DEPARTMENT:
C. SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Vice President, State Relations and Resource Development
D. NATURE OF POSITION: Execute and coordinate the Legislative Education Action Development Resource (LEADR) and Public Policy Leadership Institute (PPLI) programs. This position will execute the programs including coordinating the relationship with persons that have completed the programs. This position requires knowledge of NPPC practices/policies, and regular and reliable attendance. This position may also work with producers, allied industry and state organizations.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: 1. Education: Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Political Science, Animal Science, Agriculture Business or related applicable degree is required.
2. Skills: Requires a strong knowledge of program execution and planning; communications techniques and sales skills; the ability to motivate and influence different segments to a common purpose; strong oral, written and telephone communication skills. An understanding of agriculture is also relevant.
3. Relevant Experience: At least one year or intern experience in a relevant position.
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
4. a. Membership: Provides producer insight; speaks at producer meetings and state organization meetings. Attend appropriate committee meetings.
b. Governing Structure: Coordinates with Investor and Member Relations Committee. Works with state executives and state staff as needed.
c. Government: Infrequent.
d. Public: Infrequently helps with media as requested.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
5. Policy Formulation: Involvement in LEADR/PPLI execution policy as well as state and producer grassroots programs.
Planning: Develop and propose LEADR/PPLI marketing plans. Work with state organizations and producers to develop and implement those plans.
7. Decision Authority: May commit association funds according to prescribed budget. Considerable latitude in completing LEADR Program marketing efforts and PPLI curriculum.
8. Financial Responsibility: Assist in developing and administering a major budget.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
9. Staff Management and Leadership: Regular interaction with Washington, D.C. based staff and state staff.
10. Supervision Received: Largely limited to evaluation of results by Vice President of State Relations and Resource Development. Some day-to-day supervision.
11. Availability of Qualified Personnel: Qualified personnel are available but will require considerable amount of seeking, probably in a more extensive market base.
12. Travel: Requires extensive travel (50%) to meet with current and prospective investors. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
