Business Information Specialist I – Greensboro, NC – 1269

Role Purpose

This position will be responsible for providing analysis and reporting services to end users, documenting existing data sources and business rules, and gathering business requirements for critical projects and initiatives. This role will work closely with business users to understand their information needs and ensure that information is available at acceptable levels of data quality. To ensure the business has the information they need, this position will interface frequently with internal IS, strategic business partners and potential vendors. Accountabilities

• Develop data-driven reports supporting business strategies and opportunities
• Meet with business users to gain an understanding of their daily information needs
• Manage queue of outstanding and recurring report requests from marketing and commercial teams
• Maintain documentation all data sources managed internally and by third party vendors
• Help to clarify communication between IS teams and commercial areas
• Assist in the implementation of new workflow processes to improve data quality
• Document all completed report requests for future reference

Knowledge, experience & capabilities Critical knowledge:

• Four year degree in marketing, business, information management or IT.
• Syngenta Crop Protection business knowledge
• Knowledge of commercial data and information needs
• Good conceptual knowledge of information technology including relational databases and relational theory
• Basic working knowledge of MS Access, MS Excel, MS Sharepoint (MOSS), SQL and SAP BW

Critical experience:

• Marketing database management / mailing list management / CRM concepts
• End user business reporting
• Data auditing and quality control

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities: 
 • Demonstrates an understand of the underlying business data contained with disparate source systems
• Understanding of organizational data and information needs
• Basic knowledge of data management principles
• Ability to effectively and efficiently connect business information needs with information technology capabilities.
• Good interpersonal skills interfacing with both business and IT areas
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Critical leadership capabilities: 
• Collaborate, support and lead commercial personnel, including business leadership
• Closely collaborate with Syngenta IS to deliver an effective and accurate information system to the commercial organization.

• Good working relationships with users in all areas of the business and IS
• Analytic skills and an basic understanding of database concepts 
• Communicate business requirements to technical IS staff
• Leverage business information experts within the company
• Concern for accuracy for requirements, reporting and data sources
• Demonstrate initiative in solving user reporting needs

• Travel requirements (approximately 15%)
